       Actor, productor y director teatral, fue el creador del Little Theatre of Memphis y profesor de arte dramati co en la Southwestern University. Lo contrata Co lumbia como dialoguista en 1947. En 1949 es promovido a director, siempre como realizador de las peliculas de bajo presupuesto interpretadas por Charles Starrett. Permanecio durante toda su carrera en Co lumbia, trabajando la mayor parte del tiempo para la unidad de produccion de Sam Katzman, que se caracterizaba por la extrema modestia de sus presupuestos. Se movio entre westerns, dramas criminales, musicales baratos y peliculas de ciencia-ficcion. Como, por otra parte, Sears nunca fue especialmente brillante, los resultados resultaron ser modestos. En apenas diez anos, dirigio mas de cincuenta filmes, de los que casi la mitad son westerns. Des tacan al gunos de los ultimos que interpreto Charles Starrett.

Товар выбирается по каталогу, обычно богато и красочно иллюстрированному, присылается по почте. Оплата производится также либо чеком по почте, либо с помощью кредитной карточки [ credit card]. Последнее издание каталога "Сирс энд Роубак", выпускавшегося ровно столетие, вышло весной 1993.

В 1872 при стартовом капитале в 2,5 тыс. долларов основал компанию "Монтгомери Уорд" [Montgomery Ward and Co.], которая первой стала торговать товарами по почте [ mail order company], и одноименную сеть универсальных магазинов [ department store]. С 1875 стал гарантировать возврат денег [ money back guarantee], если покупатель не удовлетворен купленным товаром. К 1888 ежегодный объем продаж превышал 1 млн. долларов, а к 1913, когда основатель фирмы скончался, объем продаж превышал 40 млн. долларов.
